Academics have the best blog names

The previous post referred to the blog of Prof. B, an anonymous academic, who has a rather in-your-face kind of name for her blog: Bitch, Ph.D.. When I thought about it, I realized that academics do indeed have some of the most interesting blog names -- in a geeky/nerdy/academic sort of way -- that really make you sit up and take notice. Sean Carrol, a cosmologist, has Preposterous Universe (we have linked to him here and here), while Chad Orzel has a blog called Uncertain Principles (we have linked to him, too).

The most imaginative name that I have encountered so far is also that of another anonymous female academic: Moebius Stripper ! We have encountered her here.

Do you know of any others that are as interesting as these?

    Abi, you're a link lover's delight!
You are also an additional reason why my company's resources are being drained on the net, instead of me staring up at a construction site! Thangyooo!

    Anand, Shiva,

    Thanks for the links.

I have never visited 'Not Even Wrong', but I am a regular reader -- and a great admirer -- of Cosma Shalizi's blog, so I should have mentioned him. His range is just amazing, isn't it? Check out his latest on the physicists' contribution to the field of social networks that sociologists at Crooked Timber took a dim view of. And, don't forget to read his article titled 'A simple model of the evolution of simple models of evolution'; it is priceless! Cosma rocks!

Well, Shiva, I was (really, I am serious here ;-) secretly hoping that someone would add this blog to my list, even with tongue firmly in cheek. You made my day; thank you! In a similar way, I also nursed a secret hope that my post on online conversations would be nominated by someone for the Blog Mela; I didn't have the heart to do it, myself ;-). Well, in any event, another post has made it to the Mela. Thanks, Amit!

Oh, by the way, Moebius Stripper is how the blogger calls herself. Her blog is called (and you probably know now) 'Tall, Dark and Mysterious'.

    Cheers!

My daily read includes PZ Myers's pharyngula. He has some really nice blogs in his blogroll. Bitch PhD makes great reading due to her in-your-face style and especially due to her son PK. Others are Majikthise, crooked timber, Chapati Mystery. Other nice blogs include Orac, Skeptico, St Nate - the originator of Skeptic's circle, and Bad Astronomy. Also interesting are Cafe Hayek and Daniel Drezner (well political science profs are also academics).

My favourite name is Orac's "Respectful Insolence".

Thanks Niket. After I made this post, I remembered that I should have mentioned a few more. So, here we go:

    Marginal Revolution

    Zeroth Order Approximation

    Toilet Paper with Page Numbers

While the first two are academic/geeky, the third one (which appears to be an academic's blog, though I have not been able to get more info) has, like Orac's, an interesting name (again, I am not able to figure out if there is some hidden meaning -- like an academic's version of an inside joke -- which might make it even more interesting).
